woman self esteemI know a lot of people who are involved in online marketing tend to focus on teaching marketing as a way to generate leads, train their team and build their profile.

I wholeheartedly believe in doing this and employ this approach myself. However, what I have found from many years of dealing with people is that you can learn all of the marketing techniques you like but if you do not have a healthy level of self esteem, you will not be able to build an effective business.

This industry revolves around our ability to relate well to others and if you are struggling in this area you will be severely hindered. You may be able to generate lots of leads, but once those people find out where you are at, they won’t stick around anymore.

Simply put, they won’t join your team.

Do You Have Healthy Self Esteem?

Our self image has a profound impact on who we are and what we get back from the world around us.

Our self image is simply a combination of all of the input that we have had from our time of birth to the present. When we were born we had very little input to equip us for the life ahead. Over time we accumulate ideas as we evaluate the world around us and the feedback we get from it.

All of this data that is put in front of us over the years combines to form our own opinions on who we are and our place in this world.

Over time these beliefs form part of our subconscious mind that help define who we are today. In reality, what you do on a daily basis is being lived out of your subconscious database. Most of the time you live your life on autopilot as you maneuver your way through the day.

The messages we internalize as we grow can either be positive or negative. If they are positive we will develop a healthy self esteem but if they are negative we will develop an unhealthy self esteem.

Think about the input that you have had through your life. Has it been positive or negative? If you have had a negative stream of input throughout your life, don’t despair because you can change your internal belief system with a little work.

Below is a set of questions that form key indicators as to where you are at in regard to your self esteem. They are simply locators and are not here to help you overcome a poor self image in any way.

If you find that you do have some negative self beliefs that are affecting your business please seek some help. It is not a difficult process to overcome negative self beliefs with a little application and persistence.

Key Indicators To A Healthy Self Esteem

This is a list of some key indicators for someone with a healthy self esteem. As you go through the list you might like to ponder each point and write out how you feel about it.

  • Are you able to live in the moment, for today, and not worry about the past or the future?
  • Does your past bother you and do you have fear about the future?
  • Is what you are doing in your life right now consistent with what you want and where you want to go?
  • Are you open to new opinions and ideas?
  • Are you open to gaining new knowledge or is this type of thing threatening to you?
  • Are you committed to learning more, discovering more & advancing more or do you live internally with a sense of retreat?
  • Are you aware of what you believe and does involuntary prejudice take over and cause you to make irrational decisions?
  • Are you in control of your emotions or do you find yourself getting out of control internally when confronted with situations, ideas or opinions that are contrary to what you believe?
  • Are you on your own side or do you beat yourself up internally?
  • Are you in control of your feelings or do you deny your feelings?
  • Are you able to separate a person from their actions?
  • Can you look beyond what someone else does to see where they are at or are you offended by their actions?
  • Are you responsible for your choices & actions or do you blame other?
  • Can you control yourself in the company of others or are you moved to behave differently than what you normally would do?
  • Do you change to suit the other person or group or are you secure to be who you are?
  • Do you feel responsible for controlling your own time or do other people control what you do and when?
  • Are you responsible for your own happiness or is your happiness dictated by outside forces?
  • Do you live by your own values or the values of others?
  • Does your self esteem come from within you or do you need constant reassurance from those around you?
  • Do you think for yourself or do you need others to help you make choices?
  • Are you willing to confront life or does life cause you to retreat?
  • Do you live each day with purpose living to fulfill your goals?Can you identify the necessary steps to achieve your goals?
  • Are you able to monitor your behavior to ensure that it is congruent with your goals?
  • Do you take responsibility for your own behavior or does someone else “make you do it”
  • Are you able to confess you did wrong and apologize?
  • Are you able to make things right if you do wrong?

So there you go, a set of questions to act as locators. As mentioned you could become absolutely brilliant at lead generation and flop completely when it comes to being able to relate and interact with the people you come in contact with.

If after reading over these questions you find yourself lacking in self esteem then at least you will know where you stand. It should give you an indication of whether you may need some assistance in this area and whether you would like to continue or give the home business industry a big miss.

As a word of encouragement, I have heard of some tremendous stories of people with low self esteem go on in this industry and achieve phenomenal results. It can be done and it is being done every day.

There is no reason why you cannot do the same. But it will never happen for you if you can’t locate where you are at and admit that you may need some help if you are in that category. If you find that you do have low self esteem, admit it, get some help and move on in life.

What Magnetic Sponsoring And An Alpha Mindset Did For Me

What did I gain from reading Magnetic Sponsoring from Mike Dillard?

I purchased the Magnetic Sponsoring around the end of 2008 and read it a couple of times. I found that it had a profound impact on my thinking and that it brought significant change into my life as a whole, not just my marketing & business life.

Not that the impact was immediate. It wasn’t. But what it did do is show me the mindset that was required to become a leader, an alpha in the home business industry as well as in my personal life. Up until that point I did not have a clue about how my mindset would impact my business ability.

Now I will say this as a disclaimer… I CANNOT say that I have arrived to a total state of alpha leader, nor can I say that I am where I would like to be in my business, but I can say that I am a long way from where I was, not only in my marketing but also in my personal life. The change has been slow and deliberate but it has been ever so worth it and I find myself a much happier person today because of this process I put myself through.

My belief is that we are all on a journey, you… me… everyone, and that unless you are deliberately guiding your internal self in the direction you want to go, you will by default, end up some place you DO NOT want to go.

Like Yogi Berra said… “If you don’t know where you are going you might end up some place else”.

So with that said, here are a few points that I have discovered that helped me to get where I am. Perhaps you can relate to these…

  1. Instead of viewing my business activities with a mindset of someone that was just starting out, I began to look at what the leaders in this industry did and how they thought, and began to implement a strategy of being and doing just like they did. Instead of working from the bottom up in my mind, I began to think in terms of top down
  2. I began to ask questions inside myself like… what would an alpha leader say and do if they were to create the video, article or Blog post that I am about to create. I entered into the content creation cycle with the thoughts of being an alpha from the word go
  3. It set me free from the opinions of others. Alpha leaders are not moved by the opinions of people around them and I discovered a certain sense of freedom when I realized that opinions from others only have a negative impact on my self worth if I allow them to
  4. It allowed me to set people free. Rather than trying to project my thoughts and ideas onto others I was able to allow them to be who they are and if they said something that I did not agree with, I was strong & secure enough in myself to allow them to have their own opinion. After all we are all entitled to have our own opinion
  5. It set me free to make my own mistakes and that I didn’t care what an idiot I made myself out to be, because we have all been the idiot at some stage in our life
  6. It set me free from fear based reactionary responses to negative input from people in my life and business. The world is a very negative place and I decided that I was not going to allow negativity to impact my destiny

So there you go… that is a very brief breakdown of what occurred to me after reading Magnetic Sponsoring. My belief is that if you don’t have a copy then get yourself one, it is the corner stone book for leaders within the home business industry.

If You Can’t Provide Real Value, Don’t Bother Calling

I received this email the other day from a prospect that was asking me to call back with more information about the main opportunity that I am involved in. This is what it said…

.

“Only call if you have real valuable applicable, proven, info. otherwise don”t bother”.

Add-ValueI appreciated this guy for his directness because I could really understand where he was coming from.

So what I did was rather than call the guy directly, I sent him an email back detailing what I had been involved with and what I was currently doing along with the experience I had both in the home business industry and the online marketing industry.

I then mentioned that I too was looking for value because I was looking for the right people to work with. I then gave a brief list of the attributes I was looking for in a prospect before I would work with them.

Now the guy never got back to me. Maybe what I was doing didn’t have much value in his eyes, or maybe he didn’t perceive in himself that he had the value to offer me.

But as I was thinking about this later, I realized that this is actually the heart cry of all online marketers. We are all looking for a way to earn extra income online and build a successful business working from home.

People are skeptical from the word go and they insist upon value up front before they even think about going any further with you or your opportunity.

Value precedes commitment!

Your prospects are only going to commit to you to the level of the value they perceive that you have, and to the level that they perceive that you can help them. So in light of that I thought I would put together a list of points that are needed for you to be in a position to add value to someone that is looking for it.

How To “Add Value” To Someone That Is Looking For it

Knowledge - Prospects are attracted to people who they perceive can help them solve their own problems. Remember that your prospect is only interested in themselves and dealing with their situation. So when you and your prospect finally connect through some form of marketing your prospect has to perceive that you have the ability to help them get to where they want to go… to help them solve their problem.

How do you do this? Simple… become a master of the technology yourself. Learn all that you can along the way about all that you are involved with and then hand that knowledge on to your prospects.

Experience - Gaining knowledge is one thing but experience takes knowledge to another level. When you sit down and talk to someone that has had the experience and has been working with the technology you can easily tell if they have had the experience. And experience can only be gained by working in the trenches with the knowledge you have and making the mistakes.

For me in everything I do, from writing posts to creating videos or marketing funnels,  I consider it an exercise that will take me to the next level in my marketing.

Products - Whether it be your own products or affiliate products that you are marketing, only offer products to your prospects that you think will be of benefit to them and add value to what they are doing. As an example I offer a few of Mike Dillard’s products to my prospects because of the incredible value that I have got from them. But I don’t offer all of them.

I only offer those that I personally own or know someone that owns it and has recommended it, and that have actually given me great value.

Conviction - I never market a product or an opportunity to anyone unless I absolutely believe that what  I am offering has tremendous value for myself. If I am not marketing with conviction then I consider myself to be fraudulent in what I am doing.

At the end of the day my conscience has to feel that I have given value, no matter whether it’s a blog post like this one, an article, a video or a product or opportunity. Value must be exchanged or for me otherwise it’s not the real deal.

Opportunity - The main opportunity that you are involved in has to offer incredible value to your prospects. I can’t stand these cheap and cheesy online money making systems that are here today and gone tomorrow. I look for professionalism and value in an opportunity.

In my own case I searched high and low for the right opportunity that I felt I could offer my prospects. I used my experience in both the home business industry as well as the internet marketing industry to search out an opportunity that provided real value in the system and the training.

When you offer an opportunity to your prospect make sure that it will actually benefit them.

Belief - If you don’t have the belief inside of you that you yourself can actually personally “add value” to another person, then you simply won’t be able to generate success in this industry. Your own internal value system, no matter what level you are at is going to kick in and override anything that you try to do.

When I first started marketing I had my doubts about my ability to “add value” to my prospects. I overcame this by continually studying and applying what I was learning until I knew inside myself that I could master what I was doing. Once I had that level of belief, I knew I could become the leader I was required to be, for me to be successful.

Everyone is looking to follow somebody, and right now there are prospects out there that are just itching for someone like you to come along that they can relate to and learn from. But if you don’t have that belief inside of you, that you have what it takes, then they will simply look for someone else.

Conclusion

So there you go… this is a brief run down of where I believe value should be found in your marketing. In all that you do, and in all that I do, value is one of the most powerful foundational blocks that your business will rise or fall upon.
