Facebook & Twitter Combined… The Mother Of All Relationship Building Tools

Most people who use Facebook and Twitter tend to use them as individual marketing tools rather than as one tool.

What I’ve discovered is that when you use the two together they form a powerful collaborative marketing platform that will enable you to build relationships with stone cold prospects at a much deeper level.

This video will show you exactly what I’m doing right now to draw contacts from Twitter and put them into my Facebook account and begin to build relationships.

Once We Connect On Facebook

As soon as I accept the Friend Request on Facebook I send them the following message.

Hi (their name)

What’s up my friend?

Thanks for the connection. It’s nice to meet you here.

I like to interact with people on Facebook and find out how others are marketing their business online. I learn so much that way & I would love to hear what you are currently doing for your business.

So they immediately get correspondence from me thanking them for the connection, plus they also get a friendly video of me welcoming them.

Now that video has caused a lot of relationships to begin to happen because people are relating to the uniqueness of it.

First it’s not a sales video and second it’s just me hanging in the pool (who does that when shooting videos?) and people just seem to like it. Of course you could send them to something else like a Blog post, but I find that people see it as non-threatening because it’s a YouTube link and not a link to something more salesy. (that’s just my take on it)

So once they have become a friend you need to break the ice in some fashion with some form of message or video. Preferably both.

And there you go, that’s what I am doing now to BEGIN to build relationsips at a much deeper level by combining Facebook and Twitter.

Hi Greg, thanks for the video!

I already have my company's facebook fan page and my twitter account connected (so whenever I tweet, it automatically shows up as the status of my fb fan page), but is there a way to customize the tweets that show up on fb?

Hey Sally, Yes there is a way to do what you asked but I don't use it, I prefer to use Tweetdeck to handle that. There is a whole different level of strategy to the collaboration than just having your twitter & Facebook accounts connected.

You really can do some amazing things with facebook and twitter if you mix them with blogging and tools like twitterfeed and ping.fm

Hi Jason, thanks for the feedback. For me it's all been a huge learning experience... first I had to learn how to write tweets that got a click, then I had to write posts that people wanted to read, then I had to learn how to write to invoke conversation at the end. And I am still learning.

The only thing I can recommend is that you simply start building a large Twitter following and practice writing Tweets that get a response. By a response I mean something like a retweet, a comment or a click. I use bit.ly to track clicks.

While you are doing that create content that people actually want to read and participate in the conversation with. You just cannot get around that learning but for me it has taught me so much about the needs, wants & desires of internet marketers. Very valuable knowledge to have.

I will be creating another Blog post soon about this topic so you might like to keep an eye out for it.

I use Camtasia. Hey you know Jason I just checked out your blog and I have a recommendation for you. I really think it needs a picture of you in the header. It is a very attractive and informative blog but if there is no picture there is no personal branding. It was the first thing I noticed.
